ISLAMABAD – Xiaomi is preparing to launch its highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 Pr lineup on September 26 in China, with a Pakistan release expected soon after. The new series aims directly at Apple’s premium market, sparking debates about whether it can truly challenge the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The Xiaomi 17 Pr introduces a bold design shift with its innovative “Magic Back Screen.” Unlike older secondary displays, this feature stretches across the rear camera island, wrapping around two lenses. It allows users to view notifications, time, and even use it as a viewfinder for selfies. Analysts say this could be a defining factor that sets Xiaomi apart from Apple.
Under the hood, all models will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The Xiaomi 17 Pr is expected to sport a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 6,300mAh battery, supporting both wired and wireless fast charging. Meanwhile, the top-end Pro Max version will include a 6.8-inch 2K display and a massive 7,500mAh battery, appealing to power users who demand longer usage times.
Photography is another strong focus. Partnering with Leica, the new series will offer a triple-lens setup, including a 50MP Smart Sense main sensor and periscope zoom features. The secondary display in the Pro and Pro Max models also enhances the camera experience, adding new creative possibilities for users.
Pricing remains unconfirmed, but experts predict the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max could exceed the $1,400 mark, making it one of the most expensive Android phones in Pakistan. While many consumers still view Xiaomi as a budget-friendly brand, the company’s bold leap with the Xiaomi 17 Pr could reshape its image in the premium market.
With its futuristic design, strong hardware, and ambitious pricing, Xiaomi is positioning itself to compete directly with Apple. Whether it succeeds in challenging the iPhone’s dominance remains to be seen, but the September 26 launch is already one of the most anticipated smartphone events of the year.
