You Can Now Delete Threads Account Without Deleting Your Instagram

In early July, Meta launched Threads, a text-oriented social media service that quickly attracted 100 million users within five days. However, users faced a significant drawback – the inability to delete Threads accounts without removing the entire Instagram account.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has now announced the removal of this restriction, allowing users to delete Threads accounts independently.

To delete a Threads account, users can go to Settings > Account > Delete or Deactivate Profile, providing options for either temporary suspension or permanent deletion without affecting the Instagram account.

In addition to this change, Meta has modified the display of Threads posts, making them visible on other Meta platforms like Facebook. Users can now control this visibility by navigating to Settings > Privacy. It’s important to note that this adjustment only affects Facebook, as Instagram will continue to showcase Threads posts regardless of these settings.

Despite an initial decline in popularity, Threads has experienced a resurgence, especially as Twitter faced a decline in download numbers after its X rebranding. Threads has shown signs of recovery with a notable 2x increase in downloads, thanks to the introduction of missing features like a web version, keyword search, voice posts, an edit button, and more. In October, Threads maintained 33 million daily active users and 120 million monthly active users, a significant boost from September’s figures of 25 million daily users and 100 million monthly users.
