In Islamabad, the Caretaker Minister for Finance, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, has affirmed a strong commitment to promoting international cooperation and innovative tax policy solutions to enhance the country’s revenue base. She made this declaration during a roundtable discussion on “Global tax policy reforms and options for G-24” held during the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Morocco. The event served as a platform for constructive discussions on global economic issues and the exploration of dynamic tax reform options within the G-24 community.
In another event focused on “Making the IMF supported programmes work,” the finance minister emphasized the need to tailor IMF programs to the unique economic requirements of partner countries. Drawing from her extensive financial experience and leadership in economic affairs, the caretaker minister shared insights and perspectives on ensuring effective collaboration between governments and international financial institutions.

At a seminar titled “Transforming climate action through country climate development reports,” Akhtar underlined Pakistan’s dedication to addressing climate change challenges through comprehensive strategies and initiatives. The session also featured representatives from Tajikistan and Malawi, providing a platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices in the global fight against climate change.
Furthermore, the Caretaker Finance Minister conducted a meeting with Mark Suzman, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates (BMG) Foundation’s Global Growth & Opportunity Division. The meeting centered around the Pakistan Digital Stack, a next-generation digital public infrastructure supported by Raast, which Pakistan plans to introduce with the assistance of the BMG Foundation. The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Finance and the BMG Foundation regarding the Pakistan Digital Stack.
