26 Opposition MPAs Suspended Over Protest Against CM Maryam Nawaz

The Punjab Assembly Speaker on Saturday imposed a 15-day suspension on 26 opposition members for causing disruption during Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s appearance in the House.

The incident occurred during Friday’s session, where opposition legislators shouted slogans, held placards, and interrupted the assembly’s proceedings, prompting disciplinary action.

Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan declared the opposition’s conduct a breach of parliamentary decorum and invoked penalties under assembly rules. “This House cannot be allowed to fall into disorder,” he remarked, stressing the importance of maintaining discipline.

In response, opposition parties condemned the suspensions as undemocratic and vowed to continue resisting the government. A PTI representative said, “Even if they are banned for 15 years, our struggle against this regime will carry on.”

On the other hand, lawmakers from the ruling PML-N backed the speaker’s decision, saying it was essential to uphold the integrity and order of the assembly.
