Iran Faces 60-Hour Nationwide Internet Blackout Over Cyberattack Threats

Iran has experienced a widespread internet blackout lasting more than 60 hours, significantly hindering citizens’ ability to access information, communicate, and voice political opinions, according to a report released Saturday by a digital rights organization.

NetBlocks, an international internet watchdog, revealed that the disruption began earlier this week and has affected much of the country, cutting off access to global websites and online services.

“The ongoing internet shutdown is seriously impacting the public’s ability to share political perspectives, stay connected, and receive critical safety updates,” NetBlocks stated.

Although Iranian authorities have not provided a comprehensive explanation, officials in Tehran have linked the blackout to what they describe as increased threats of cyberattacks from Israel.

They argue that the internet restrictions are a protective measure aimed at safeguarding the country’s critical infrastructure from potential digital sabotage.
