The Government of Pakistan has officially announced that it will recommend former U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, acknowledging his significant role in defusing the recent military crisis between Pakistan and India.
In a statement shared on the governmentβs official X (formerly Twitter) account, Islamabad credited Trumpβs βstrong diplomatic efforts and decisive leadershipβ with easing a dangerously escalating conflict between the two nuclear powers. The intervention, they noted, may have prevented a large-scale war and safeguarded millions of lives.

βPresident Trump exhibited remarkable strategic insight and statesmanship by engaging both Islamabad and New Delhi during a critical phase. His actions helped bring about a ceasefire that averted disaster,β the statement read.
The conflictβreferred to by Pakistani officials as the “2025 India-Pakistan crisis”βbegan following what Pakistan labeled as βunjustified Indian aggressionβ that breached its sovereignty and resulted in numerous civilian casualties. In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, which was described as a calibrated military response aimed at re-establishing deterrence while minimizing civilian harm.
Amid rising tensions, the Pakistani government claims that Trumpβs behind-the-scenes diplomatic outreach was the turning point that eased the deadlock between the two sides.
According to Islamabad, βThis intervention showcases President Trumpβs genuine dedication to peace and his preference for resolving international disputes through dialogue.β
The statement also highlighted Trumpβs ongoing interest in mediating the long-standing Kashmir conflict, emphasizing that his past and present initiatives demonstrate a βsincere desire for lasting peace in South Asia.β It further asserted that true stability in the region cannot be achieved without a resolution of the Kashmir issue, in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
This declaration came shortly after Trump reiterated his belief that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in de-escalating South Asian tensions. Speaking to the media, Trump expressed frustration over the lack of recognition, stating, βI shouldβve been awarded the Nobel Prize for preventing war between India and Pakistan.β
He added, βThey should give me the Nobel for Rwanda, or the Congo, or Serbia and Kosovoβthere are many examples. But especially India and Pakistan. I shouldβve won it four or five times. But they only give it to liberals. They wonβt give it to me.β
