A Pakistani delegation has expressed optimism that the US government may release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui before January 20.
During a meeting with US officials in Texas, Senator Bushra Anjum highlighted positive discussions and expressed hope for justice. The delegation also urged the US Congress and State Department to support Dr. Siddiqui’s release.

As part of their efforts, the delegation visited Dr Aafia Siddiqui in prison and spent three hours with her. Despite facing significant challenges, Dr Aafia Siddiqui remains hopeful for justice. The visit was conducted under the directives of PM Shehbaz Sharif to address concerns about her imprisonment.
In October, the government of Pakistan formally requested a presidential pardon for Dr. Siddiqui. PM Shehbaz wrote a letter to the US President, seeking clemency, as reported in the Islamabad High Court.
During a court hearing, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, Aafia’s sister, pressed the government for her repatriation, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. Advocate Imran Shafiq expressed hopes that the letter would lead to her safe return to Pakistan.
