LOS ANGELES – A rare sighting of the Doomsday Plane at Los Angeles International Airport has triggered widespread discussion online. Many users shared images and videos, questioning the purpose of the unusual aircraft.
The aircraft was tracked flying from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska to Camp Springs, Maryland. Camp Springs is located near Washington, DC. It later continued its journey to Los Angeles, according to flight-tracking data.
The plane’s unique shape and secrecy quickly caught public attention. Social media users linked the sighting to ongoing global tensions. Several conspiracy theories also surfaced online.
The Doomsday Plane is officially known as the Boeing E-4B Nightwatch. It is designed for national emergencies. The aircraft serves as a flying command center for top US leadership.
These planes are built to survive nuclear attacks. They can operate even if ground command centers are destroyed. Because of their sensitive role, they usually avoid public visibility.
The US Department of Defense later clarified the reason behind the flight. Reports said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was onboard during the landing at LAX. The visit was part of his “Arsenal of Freedom” tour.
This tour focuses on promoting the US defense industry. It also aims to support military recruitment efforts nationwide. However, officials did not explain why the E-4B was used instead of a regular aircraft.
What makes the Doomsday Plane special is its advanced design. It can withstand electromagnetic pulse attacks. It also carries secure communication systems for global military coordination.
Only four such aircraft exist. Each one is heavily modified from a Boeing 747-200. The plane includes workspaces, briefing rooms, communication centers, and rest areas.
The aircraft can carry up to 111 people. These include military leaders, communication teams, and security staff. It can stay airborne for 12 hours without refueling.
With mid-air refueling, its flight time can extend much longer. This allows leadership to remain operational during crises.
