18 Foreign Nationals Among 21 Dead in New Delhi Hotel Fire Tragedy

NEW DELHI โ€“ A deadly hotel fire in Indiaโ€™s capital has killed at least 21 people, including 18 Foreign Nationals, police confirmed on Wednesday. The tragic incident has raised serious safety concerns in the city.

Authorities said the fire broke out at a hotel named Flourish Stay in South Delhiโ€™s Malviya Nagar area. The building is located in a densely populated and congested neighborhood.

According to officials, the blaze started in the morning and quickly spread through the lower floors. The fire trapped many guests on upper levels of the building.

Police confirmed that 21 people died in the incident. Among the victims were 18 Foreign Nationals from different countries. These included Bangladesh, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Liberia.

The incident is being described as one of the most severe fire tragedies in New Delhi since 2022. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the fire was reported.

Eyewitnesses said panic spread quickly as smoke filled the building. Several people were seen jumping from upper floors to escape the flames. Local residents tried to help by placing mattresses on the road.

Authorities said more than 40 injured people were taken to nearby hospitals. Many of them remain under medical treatment. Rescue operations continued for several hours after the fire was brought under control.

Firefighters used eight fire engines to extinguish the blaze. Officials confirmed that the situation was eventually stabilized after intense efforts.

Police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. At this stage, the reason behind the incident has not been confirmed.

However, early reports suggest that electrical issues may have contributed to the rapid spread. Poor safety standards in buildings are often highlighted in such cases.

Officials added that multiple agencies are working together at the site. They are ensuring assistance for victims and their families, including Foreign Nationals affected by the tragedy.

The incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety regulations in India. Experts say building safety violations and weak enforcement remain major risks.
