The British Council has announced a new round of Scholarships for women interested in studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in the United Kingdom. The program offers fully funded master’s degrees for the 2026–27 academic year.
These Scholarships are designed to support talented women who want to pursue advanced education in STEM fields. Officials say the initiative aims to reduce gender barriers in science and technology careers.
The program is part of the Going Global Partnerships initiative. It has been running for six consecutive years and focuses on empowering female leadership in research and innovation.
Each of the Scholarships is valued at around £40,000. The funding covers tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, visa processing, healthcare, and English language support. This allows selected students to focus fully on their academic studies.
The scholarship program partners with 43 universities and research institutions across the United Kingdom. These institutions offer access to world-class laboratories, research facilities, and academic mentorship.
Over the past few years, the program has awarded around 500 Scholarships to women from different countries. These awards have helped many students gain international education and build successful careers in STEM sectors.
For the 2026–27 academic intake, a total of 90 scholarships will be offered worldwide. The awards will be distributed across 30 participating countries.
Among these opportunities, 25 Scholarships are reserved for applicants from South Asia. These placements are being offered in collaboration with five leading UK universities.
Officials say the initiative aims to support women who show strong academic potential but may lack financial resources. By providing access to quality education, the program hopes to encourage more women to pursue careers in science and engineering.
Experts believe such programs can help increase diversity in global research communities. Greater representation of women in STEM fields can lead to more inclusive innovation and scientific progress.
Applications for the Scholarships will remain open until late April 2026. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through participating universities in the United Kingdom.
