Aviation Disruptions Continue In India Despite Ceasefire With Pakistan

Despite a recently brokered ceasefire between Pakistan and India, flight operations at over two dozen Indian airports remained suspended, with 444 scheduled flights cancelled amid ongoing security concerns. Key airports in northern cities such as Amritsar, Srinagar, Jammu, Ladakh, Dharamshala, Shimla, Adampur, and Chandigarh stayed non-operational, as authorities maintained a high level of military alertness.

Srinagar Airport faced its seventh consecutive day of closure, cancelling 65 flights, while Leh Kaushik Airport and Jammu Airport each suspended all their daily operations. Airports in Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Jodhpur, Rajkot, and Bhuj also faced significant disruptions, with grounded aircraft removed from these facilities as a precautionary measure.

The extensive shutdown of air travel comes in the wake of Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes following an alleged Indian incursion. According to military reports, Pakistan’s Fateh-1 missile system, in conjunction with a hypersonic missile fired from a JF-17 Thunder aircraft, reportedly destroyed India’s S-400 air defence system at Adampur air base — an escalation that spurred urgent diplomatic engagement and led to the ceasefire announcement two days ago.

Despite this truce, Indian authorities have yet to indicate when normal aviation activity might resume. With military installations across several northern states on high alert and no official comments from Indian defence or aviation ministries, analysts warn that both countries continue to adopt a cautious stance along their sensitive borders.
