Blinken Questions Global Silence on Hamas and Hostage Situation

In a recent interview with The New York Times, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his astonishment at the lack of international pressure on Hamas to release hostages and end the violence in Gaza. He questioned why the global community had not issued a unified call for Hamas to surrender and lay down its arms since the outbreak of conflict on October 7, 2024. Blinken noted that despite Israel’s repeated offers of safe passage for Hamas leaders, the international community remained silent.

Blinken also suggested that a hostage deal could be a crucial step toward ending the ongoing conflict, but pointed out that Hamas had often retreated from negotiations when public pressure on Israel increased. He acknowledged Israel’s provision of humanitarian aid but criticized the country for not doing enough to ensure adequate protection and assistance for civilians in Gaza, where the death toll of Palestinians has surpassed 50,000.

The U.S. Secretary of State reiterated America’s strong support for Israel’s defense, despite the heavy casualties. As tensions between Israel, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran continue to rise, the humanitarian crisis deepens, leaving the region in a volatile and uncertain state.
