China’s Warning: US AI Military Tech May Create a ‘Terminator’ World

China’s Warning US AI Military Tech May Create a ‘Terminator’ World

China has warned that the growing use of artificial intelligence in military operations could create a dangerous future similar to the movie Terminator. Officials said excessive reliance on AI in warfare may threaten global security and ethical standards.

The warning came from China’s defence ministry during a media briefing. Spokesman Jiang Bin expressed concern about the expanding role of artificial intelligence in military strategies. He said the unrestricted use of AI systems could lead to outcomes similar to the dystopian world shown in Terminator films.

According to Chinese officials, the use of AI in military operations raises serious ethical questions. They warned that allowing algorithms to decide life-and-death situations could weaken human responsibility in warfare. The spokesman said such decisions should remain under human control.

The comments came as the United States continues to expand its use of advanced AI systems in defence programs. Reports indicate that the Pentagon has approved the use of AI technologies in classified environments. These systems are expected to assist in military planning, intelligence analysis, and operational decisions.

However, China argues that excessive reliance on these technologies may lead to unpredictable consequences. Officials believe that autonomous systems could eventually operate beyond human oversight. They say this could create a scenario similar to the fictional world of Terminator, where machines control battlefield decisions.

The Terminator film series, first released in 1984, portrays a future in which artificial intelligence becomes powerful enough to fight humanity. The story shows robots controlled by a central AI system battling human resistance. Chinese officials referenced this example to highlight potential risks.

Another issue involves a dispute between the US military and artificial intelligence company Anthropic. The Pentagon reportedly blacklisted the company after it refused to allow its AI model to be used for mass surveillance or fully autonomous weapons.

The disagreement highlights growing debate over how artificial intelligence should be used in warfare. Some technology firms have raised concerns about AI systems being used without ethical limits.

China has urged countries to adopt stricter rules for military AI. Officials say international cooperation is needed to prevent dangerous outcomes similar to the Terminator scenario.

Experts believe the discussion reflects wider global concerns about artificial intelligence in defence. As countries race to develop advanced military technologies, the balance between innovation and safety remains a critical issue.
