NEW DELHI: The mother of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has claimed that her son was threatened by unknown individuals and allegedly told to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or face serious consequences.
Anita Dipke made the allegations during an interview with a Marathi news channel. She said the family began facing intimidation after her son launched his political platform.
According to Anita Dipke, the threats created fear within the family and forced them to leave their home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. She said they stayed at a relative’s house in the Konkan region for 16 days to avoid possible danger.
The Cockroach Janta Party was formed after a digital campaign gained attention across India. The movement began following remarks attributed to Indian Chief Justice Surya Kant, who reportedly referred to unemployed young people as “cockroaches.”
Initially, the campaign started as an online parody. However, it later developed into a youth-led political movement highlighting issues related to examination irregularities and the alleged NEET-UG paper leaks.
Anita Dipke said her son was in Boston, United States, when he received a warning video. According to her, the message allegedly demanded that he align himself politically with the BJP.
She recalled that her son was not personally afraid of the threats. However, he was concerned about the safety of his family because they were not accustomed to dealing with such situations.
Quoting her son’s response, Anita Dipke said he believed the family’s security was the biggest concern rather than his own safety.
The Cockroach Janta Party later became associated with wider public protests. The movement eventually joined demonstrations in New Delhi, including a 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar alongside activist Sonam Wangchuk.
The protest campaign focused on concerns surrounding examination transparency and alleged irregularities in the education system. The demonstrations attracted significant public attention and sparked nationwide debate.
According to the claims presented by Anita Dipke, the protests increased pressure on the federal government. She said the movement eventually led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Following a period of medical recovery from typhoid, Abhijeet Dipke has reportedly returned home. The renewed allegations by his mother have again drawn attention to the controversy surrounding the movement.
At the time of reporting, representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party had not issued a formal response to the allegations made by Anita Dipke. The claims have not been independently verified.
