In a horrific case of mob violence, five members of a single family were beaten to death and thrown into a pond in Bihar, India, after being accused of practising witchcraft. The shocking incident occurred after a local boy’s death sparked suspicions among villagers.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that three suspects have been arrested and confessed to the brutal killings. Among the victims were three women, including a 75-year-old grandmother. The accused allegedly blamed one family member for the death of his son, claiming the family was involved in black magic.

According to officials, after the murders, the attackers used a tractor to dump the bodies in a nearby pond. Both the victims and the accused belonged to the Oraon tribal community, highlighting the deep-rooted impact of superstition in some rural areas.
Despite awareness campaigns and laws in states like Bihar, witchcraft-related violence continues to plague tribal communities. Experts warn that such accusations are often a cover for personal revenge or disputes over land and inheritance.
