German Chancellor Presents Donald Trump with Grandfather’s Birth Certificate

On Thursday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz presented US President Donald Trump with a framed copy of his grandfather’s birth certificate.

The certificate belonged to Frederick Trump, born in 1869 near Bad Dürkheim, Germany. Chancellor Merz shared this historic document during their meeting, which occurred amid ongoing tensions between the two nations concerning tariffs, defense spending, and the conflict in Ukraine.

Merz informed President Trump that his grandfather was born near Bad Dürkheim in 1869 and was named “Frederick.”

President Trump accepted the gift warmly, saying he would proudly display it in a place of honor.
