Addressing the ongoing situation, Saleh al-Arouri, who serves as the head of Hamas’s political bureau, asserted that Hamas forces have successfully apprehended high-ranking officers from the Israeli military.
In response to reports of captives, an Israeli security source acknowledged their awareness, but no additional details were provided. During a briefing with reporters, an Israeli military spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
Hamas’s assertions regarding the capture of Israeli individuals have also been confirmed by Israel’s N12 News.
The alleged capture of General Aloni holds significance, as he previously held the position of commander of the IDF’s Gaza division and led the Israeli military’s “Operation Guardian of the Walls” in 2021.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the current count of Israeli casualties stands at 200 individuals, as a result of the ongoing attacks.
On the other side, the Palestinian health ministry has reported “198 martyrs and 1,610 wounded with different injuries” in the conflict, which escalated after Israel initiated retaliatory airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.
During a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, United States President Joe Biden has offered assurance of “appropriate means of support” to Israel in the wake of the attacks by Hamas.
While defending Israel’s right to “defend itself,” President Biden has issued a warning to any other parties with hostile intentions towards Israel, cautioning against exploiting the volatile situation.
