Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi Drone over the Saudi city of Taif, according to Saudi authorities. The incident occurred amid renewed tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Civil Defense said debris from the intercepted drone fell across several populated areas. The falling fragments caused casualties and damage after the aircraft was destroyed in the air.

One Yemeni resident was killed in the incident, according to Saudi Civil Defense. Two other people were injured after debris reached civilian areas. The injured included a Saudi woman and a Pakistani national.

The Pakistani resident was taken to a hospital following the incident. Reports said the Pakistani national was in critical condition. The Saudi woman also received medical attention after sustaining injuries.

Authorities said the Houthi Drone was intercepted before reaching its intended target. However, debris from the destroyed aircraft fell at multiple locations across Taif.

The falling fragments reportedly struck homes, buildings and vehicles. Emergency teams were sent to the affected areas after the incident was reported.

Officials began assessing the damage while emergency workers responded to the casualties. The incident also highlighted the risks linked to drone interceptions over populated areas.

A successful interception can prevent a drone from reaching its target. However, falling debris can still pose risks to people and property below.

The latest Houthi Drone incident comes amid increased tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. Saudi authorities have reported several recent drone and missile threats targeting locations inside the kingdom.
