India: Factory Explosion in Telangana Leaves at Least 10 Dead and Several Injured

A deadly explosion rocked a chemical factory in India’s southern state of Telangana on Monday, killing at least 10 people and injuring several others. The incident has triggered major rescue efforts and heightened safety concerns across the region.

The explosion took place at Sigachi Chemical Industry in the Pashamylaram Industrial Area near Hyderabad. Reports indicate that a reactor inside the facility burst, sparking a huge fire that quickly spread throughout the building.

Fire officials confirmed that between 15 and 20 workers were injured, and the blast released thick clouds of smoke that caused panic among both factory staff and nearby residents.

Local police and emergency services responded swiftly, launching search and rescue operations over fears that some workers could still be trapped in the rubble. Authorities warned that the site remains dangerous due to lingering heat and potential chemical leaks.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as injured employees were pulled from the debris and rushed to hospitals. One survivor recalled the terrifying moment: “There was a loud blast, and in seconds, the whole building was in flames.”

While the exact cause is yet to be confirmed, early findings suggest a reactor failure may have triggered the explosion. Officials have ordered a technical investigation to determine what went wrong.

As a safety measure, the entire Pashamylaram industrial zone has been placed on high alert. Several nearby factories have temporarily halted operations while safety checks are conducted.

So far, the state government has not issued an official statement regarding financial compensation for victims or updates on safety inspections. Human rights groups have criticized regulatory authorities for lax enforcement and called for urgent reforms to industrial safety protocols.

Industrial accidents remain a persistent issue in India, where rapid industrial growth often outpaces safety enforcement. The tragedy in Telangana has once again highlighted the serious risks faced by workers in hazardous industries and the urgent need for stronger safety measures.
