Indian Police Raid Syed Ali Geelani's Residence and Office

In a recent display of repression, Indian police raided the residence and office of the late Syed Ali Geelani, seizing significant books and documents related to the Kashmir liberation movement.

The early morning raid targeted Geelani’s home and the office of the Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement (Tehreek-e-Hurriyat). According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), authorities confiscated several important documents and books authored by Syed Ali Geelani during their search.

This incident is not isolated. Over the past year, KMS reports that more than 100 political and civil rights leaders in Kashmir have been subjected to similar raids. These operations often involve the seizure of documents and electronic devices, intensifying the climate of political suppression in the region.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a leading pro-independence coalition in Kashmir, strongly condemned the raids. They described the actions as an attempt to silence voices advocating for Kashmiri self-determination and denounced the ongoing harassment of political leaders and activists opposing Indian policies.

These raids are part of a broader crackdown on dissent in Kashmir, as Indian authorities continue to tighten control over the region and suppress opposition.
