In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old national-level tennis player was shot dead by her father in Gurugram on Thursday morning. Radhika Yadav, a former professional tennis player, was killed while preparing a meal to celebrate her mother’s birthday.
According to Gurugram police, Radhika’s father, Deepak Yadav, confessed to the crime. He claimed he was disturbed by villagers’ remarks about relying on his daughter’s income and rumors about her character. He had reportedly asked Radhika several times to close her tennis academy, but she had refused.
The tragic incident occurred around 10:30 am at their home in Sector 57, Gurugram. Radhika had gone into the kitchen when Deepak allegedly shot her three times from behind using his licensed .32 bore revolver.
Her uncle and cousin, who lived on the ground floor, rushed to the scene after hearing gunshots. They found the young tennis player lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to Asia Maringo Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Radhika Yadav was not only a tennis player who represented India at the national level, but she also inspired many young athletes. After a shoulder injury ended her professional career, she opened a tennis academy to train children.
Police recovered the revolver from the drawing room along with five empty shells and one live bullet. Forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, and the weapon has been seized.
Radhika’s mother told police there were no major disputes between her husband and daughter. She described Radhika as a well-mannered, respected girl who had never brought shame to the family.
A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. The tragic loss of the young tennis player has left the community in deep shock.
