In a major blow to the Modi-led Indian government, India’s own National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially refuted claims that four men were responsible for the deadly Pahalgam attack. This revelation comes after weeks of heightened media coverage and regional tension.
Initially, the Indian government publicly named the four individuals as terrorists behind the massacre — a move that not only shaped public opinion but also served as the foundation for a military strike against Pakistan. The narrative was aggressively pushed by several Indian media outlets, fuelling nationalist sentiment and cross-border hostility.

However, the NIA’s investigation found no credible evidence linking the accused to the incident, directly contradicting the government’s initial statement. The agency’s findings raise serious concerns about the handling of sensitive intelligence and the politicization of national security.
Critics argue that if India’s own top investigative body cannot support the government’s claims, it undermines both domestic and international trust in the administration’s credibility and decision-making.
