Iran Carries Out Public Execution of Man Convicted in Child Rape and Murder

Iran has publicly executed a man found guilty of raping and murdering a young girl. The execution took place on Saturday, following a court process that involved the victim’s family.

According to Iranian media, the incident occurred in the northwestern city of Bukan. The judiciary stated that the case deeply affected the public, leading the victim’s family to request a public execution.

The man’s death sentence was initially handed down in March. It was later confirmed by the highest court in Iran. The country’s judiciary described the case as particularly sensitive, given the emotional reaction it triggered across the nation.

Naser Atabati, the chief justice of the province, explained that the public execution was carried out “at the request of the victim’s family and citizens.” He noted the widespread public concern and sorrow over the crime.

In Iran, public executions are still practiced, especially in cases considered highly serious. These executions, often carried out by hanging, are used in crimes involving extreme violence or harm to children.

Iran’s legal system allows victims’ families to take part in the judicial process. In this case, the family remained closely involved from the beginning to the end. They reportedly pushed for a public punishment as a form of justice for their daughter.

The judiciary’s Mizan Online news outlet emphasized that the legal process followed all required procedures. It also confirmed that the emotional weight of the case played a key role in the decision for a public execution.

While public executions in Iran have drawn criticism from human rights groups, they continue to be used in cases that spark national outrage. This incident is the latest example of how Iran’s justice system responds to crimes involving children and sexual violence.
