Iran has declared that further dialogue with the United States over its nuclear programme is now “meaningless,” citing Washington’s alleged complicity in Israel’s latest wave of deadly airstrikes on Iranian territory.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Friday that negotiations cannot continue when “the other side acts in a way that makes dialogue meaningless.” Quoted by Tasnim news agency, Baghaei accused the U.S. of giving implicit approval to Israel’s actions, stating: “You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time permit the Zionist regime to attack Iranian territory.”

The strong remarks followed a massive Israeli assault that targeted Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure, killing senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders — including Generals Mohammad Baqeri and Hossein Salami — as well as top nuclear scientists. In retaliation, Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israeli cities and military sites, triggering further casualties and deepening regional instability.
Despite U.S. denials of involvement, Iranian officials maintain that the Israeli strikes could not have happened without American coordination. The U.S. has acknowledged foreknowledge of the attacks but insisted it still supports a diplomatic resolution and encouraged Tehran to return to the negotiation table.
The sixth round of nuclear talks scheduled in Muscat now appears uncertain. Iran continues to reject accusations of pursuing nuclear weapons, maintaining that its uranium enrichment efforts are purely for civilian energy needs.
As tensions reach a new peak, the possibility of reviving diplomacy seems increasingly remote amid growing mistrust and mutual accusations.
