Iran has claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks targeting two US military bases in Jordan.
Iranian officials described the strikes as retaliation for a recent American operation on Iran’s Larak Island. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, announced responsibility for the attacks.
It said the operation targeted the King Hussein and Al-Azraq military bases in Jordan. The IRGC described the strikes as part of a campaign against what it called American aggression.
Iran Claims US Military Facilities Were Targeted
According to the IRGC, the attacks targeted several areas linked to US military operations. These reportedly included military facilities, maintenance infrastructure, and areas used for fighter aircraft deployment.
However, the Iranian claims have not been independently verified. Jordan’s military provided a different account of the incident.
It said the country’s air defence systems intercepted eight missiles that entered Jordanian airspace. Jordanian authorities reported no casualties following the attacks.
US Operation on Larak Island Preceded Strikes
The Iranian operation followed a US attack against two IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island. The island is located in the Strait of Hormuz near the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.
A US Central Command spokesperson said Iranian personnel were preparing rockets before the American strike. According to the US account, the rockets could have delivered naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway is an important route for global maritime trade and international oil shipments. Iranian authorities condemned the US operation and promised a response.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that drones were used during the attack on Larak Island. The outlet claimed two people were killed and another two were wounded.
The IRGC separately said Iranian fighters and civilians were killed or injured during the American operation.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Key Focus
The latest confrontation places renewed attention on the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
It is considered strategically important because of the large volume of energy shipments passing through the area. US President Donald Trump has previously said Iranian naval mines in the waterway were destroyed or removed.
Iran rejected those statements and described them as propaganda. The missile and drone strikes in Jordan mark another escalation between Washington and Tehran.

Jordanian authorities maintain that eight incoming missiles were intercepted without causing casualties. The differing accounts from the involved countries have not been independently confirmed.
