An Iranian drone struck fuel tanks at Kuwait International Airport early Wednesday, causing a major fire. Firefighters rushed to control the blaze.
Kuwaitโs state news agency KUNA confirmed the attack. Authorities reported no casualties in the incident. The strike caused significant damage to facilities managed by the Kuwait Aviation Fueling Company.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated that the fire was contained after several hours of intense firefighting. Investigations are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage to the fuel tanks.
This attack is part of a rising wave of strikes on critical infrastructure in Kuwait amid growing regional tensions. Officials warned that such incidents could disrupt fuel supply and aviation operations.
Separately, Bahrainโs Interior Ministry reported a fire at one of its facilities, caused by another Iranian attack. Authorities said the fire was quickly contained without injuries.
The attacks come amid escalating conflict in the region. Since February 28, the United States and Israel have conducted airstrikes on Iran, resulting in over 1,340 deaths according to Iranian sources.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Gulf countries and nations hosting US military assets, including Jordan and Iraq. Experts warn that such tensions increase the risk of attacks on fuel tanks and other critical energy infrastructure.
Authorities in Kuwait are reviewing security measures to protect aviation fuel storage and prevent future incidents. Officials urge strict monitoring of all sensitive facilities amid the ongoing conflict.
The international community continues to call for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation. Analysts emphasize that attacks on fuel tanks and similar infrastructure could have far-reaching economic and environmental consequences.
