The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has ordered residents of Gaza City to evacuate southwards to designated humanitarian zones, including Khan Younis and Muwasi. This comes as the military ramps up its offensive on the city, considered a stronghold of Hamas.
Israeli forces claim control of nearly half of Gaza City and about 75% of the broader Gaza territory. The military operation was endorsed by Prime Minister Netanyahu amid growing internal dissent.
On the ground, bombardments and artillery strikes have displaced thousands of Palestinians. Many remain in place, fearing that evacuation does not guarantee safety.
Aid agencies and humanitarian groups have warned that such a rapid, large-scale evacuation could worsen an already dire crisis. The area faces famine, severe crowding, and destruction of basic infrastructure. Some organizations have called the evacuation unsafe and unfeasible.
So far, over 64,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict began in October 2023. Many displaced families are being uprooted yet again amid shrinking safe zones and growing alarm.
As the offensive continues, Gazaβs humanitarian situation remains on edge. Security measures and evacuation plans are unfolding rapidly, with support efforts limited by mounting risks.
