Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a coalition meeting on Sunday after raising objections to the composition of a new Gaza advisory panel announced by the White House.
The panel, called the Gaza Executive Board, will operate under the broader “Board of Peace” chaired by US President Donald Trump. It is part of Trump’s 20-point plan to manage post-war efforts in Gaza.
The executive board includes regional and international officials, such as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi. Israel’s office said the announcement was not coordinated with Tel Aviv and “runs contrary to its policy.”
Netanyahu instructed his Foreign Affairs Minister to contact the US Secretary of State regarding the issue. Israel has previously objected to any Turkish involvement in post-war Gaza, amid deteriorating relations following the conflict that began in October 2023.
The Prime Minister’s coalition, including Likud, the Religious Zionist Party, and Otzma Yehudit, met to review the executive board’s composition. No immediate resolution was reported, but discussions focused on Israel’s security concerns and political objections.
The White House outlined that Trump’s Gaza plan will consist of three bodies: the Board of Peace chaired by Trump, a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage Gaza, and the Gaza Executive Board in an advisory role. The Palestinian committee held its first meeting in Cairo on Saturday.
Diplomatic attention is now shifting to the implementation of the plan’s second phase. The United States indicated that the focus would move from ceasefire enforcement to the disarmament of Hamas, whose attack on Israel in October 2023 triggered the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Experts say Netanyahu’s objection reflects longstanding Israeli concerns over foreign involvement in Gaza and the strategic influence of Turkey in the region. Analysts expect further discussions between Israel, the US, and regional actors in the coming days.
