Israeli Attack on Beirut Results in Six More Casualties

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated significantly, with Israel launching airstrikes on central Beirut early Thursday, resulting in six deaths and seven injuries. This airstrike, targeting the Bachoura neighborhood near Lebanon’s parliament, is the closest attack to Lebanon’s government seat in the recent conflict. Israeli forces also hit Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold, with three missiles.

The escalation follows a deadly day for Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, where eight Israeli soldiers were killed, and three Merkava tanks were destroyed near Maroun El Ras.

This marks a sharp increase in violence, triggered by Iran’s missile barrage on Israel after the assassination of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Despite international calls for de-escalation, including from US President Joe Biden, Israel continues its military operations, targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. The conflict has resulted in severe civilian casualties in Gaza, with over 41,000 Palestinians killed, and a humanitarian crisis in Lebanon as 1.2 million people have been displaced. Additionally, Israel is facing condemnation at the International Court of Justice over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

The situation remains volatile, with Israel’s military action spreading across Lebanon, Gaza, and Syria, while diplomatic efforts to contain the violence continue to face significant challenges.
