Israeli Strike Kills 10 Palestinians Near Gaza School Sheltering Displaced People

Israeli Strike

At least 10 Palestinians were killed on Friday in an Israeli strike targeting the entrance of a school in the Nuseirat camp, which was sheltering displaced individuals in the central Gaza Strip, according to medics reported by Reuters. This incident follows an overnight bombardment that resulted in the deaths of 47 Palestinians, with many casualties being children and women, as reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA.

The assaults primarily affected the cities of Deir Al-Balah, Nuseirat camp, and Al-Zawayda town. The Israeli military stated that its forces had identified and eliminated “several armed terrorists” in central Gaza and claimed to have targeted “dozens of terrorists” in the northern Gaza area of Jabalia.

This escalation is part of the ongoing Gaza war, which began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 Israeli fatalities and the abduction of 251 hostages into Gaza, according to Israeli figures. In retaliation, the Israeli offensive has reportedly killed over 43,000 Palestinians and caused widespread destruction across the enclave, as per Palestinian authorities.

The recent military strikes also included attacks on hospitals, with one incident igniting medical supplies and disrupting operations. The Israeli military accused Hamas of utilizing Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya for military purposes, a claim that has been denied by health officials and Hamas. In response, the health ministry in Gaza has urged international bodies to protect hospitals and medical personnel from the ongoing violence.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has also raised concerns after one of its doctors, Mohammed Obeid, was detained by Israeli forces, calling for the protection of medical staff facing violence while providing care.
