In a dramatic turn in Middle Eastern tensions, Israel’s military confirmed overnight airstrikes on multiple Iranian targets, including the Arak heavy water nuclear reactor. The attack, which marks one of the most direct confrontations in the region in recent years, is being viewed as a significant escalation between the two longtime adversaries.
According to Israeli military officials, dozens of locations were hit across Iran, with particular focus on nuclear and missile production facilities. Among the most prominent was the IR-40 reactor near Arak, where jets reportedly struck the core seal of the reactor—a crucial part of Iran’s plutonium production infrastructure.

Strikes were also confirmed at a nuclear development site in Natanz and at several factories linked to Iran’s ballistic missile program. Iran’s state media acknowledged the attack on Arak but assured there was “no radiation danger,” claiming the facility had been evacuated following Israel’s prior warnings.
The Arak reactor, under construction since 2004, has long been a point of international scrutiny. Although not yet fully operational, Iran recently informed the UN nuclear watchdog of plans to begin operations by next year.
This latest episode follows a series of cross-border clashes and has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict. Global powers are urging restraint, warning of potential consequences for stability in the Middle East.
