French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday called for European countries to “harden the collective position” against Israel if it fails to adequately address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Macron emphasized that urgent action was needed “in the next few hours and days” to prevent further suffering.
Highlighting the political importance of the issue, Macron described the recognition of a Palestinian state with conditions as “not only a moral duty, but a political necessity.” France’s foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot echoed this stance, condemning Israel’s military campaign and blockade in Gaza as “indefensible” and affirming France’s determination to recognize a Palestinian state.

Barrot also supported a European Union initiative led by the Netherlands to review cooperation agreements with Israel, which could impact political and economic relations. President Macron has hinted that France may formally recognize Palestine at a UN conference planned for June.
Meanwhile, a new U.S. plan proposed a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, along with the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The plan, backed by former President Donald Trump and regional mediators, reportedly has Israel’s agreement and calls for immediate aid delivery to Gaza following Hamas’ approval.
