A horrifying case of domestic violence has surfaced from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where a woman was subjected to brutal torture by her husband, Shatrughan Rai. The 40-year-old allegedly accused his wife of infidelity and inflicted inhumane abuse on her, including inserting chili powder into her private parts, burning her thighs with a hot iron, and attempting to electrocute her.
The victim was locked in a room without food or water for two days, her cries ignored by neighbors too afraid to intervene. It was only on June 15 that her brother arrived and rescued her from the nightmare. She was first taken to Paroo Primary Health Centre and later shifted to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

An FIR was filed on June 16 against Shatrughan Rai and four of his family members — his mother, brother, and sister — based on the victim’s testimony. Authorities have arrested Rai, and investigations are ongoing.
The disturbing incident has sparked outrage and raised fresh concerns about women’s safety within their own homes, especially in rural regions where fear and silence often protect the abusers.
