Saudi authorities have installed thousands of new Carpets at the two holiest mosques in Islam to improve comfort for worshippers. The initiative covers both Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi.
According to officials, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has provided around 58,000 new Carpets for the two mosques. The move aims to maintain high standards of cleanliness and comfort for millions of visitors.
A large portion of these Carpets has been installed inside Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. Reports say approximately 39,400 carpets have been placed in different areas of the mosque.
These areas include the Saudi expansion and prayer sections that receive large numbers of worshippers daily. The new carpets help ensure that pilgrims can perform prayers in a clean and comfortable environment.
Masjid al-Haram is visited by millions of Muslims each year. Many pilgrims travel to the mosque to perform Umrah and Hajj. Because of the high number of visitors, the mosque requires continuous maintenance.
Officials say the quality of the Carpets is carefully monitored. The carpets are designed to withstand heavy daily use while maintaining comfort for worshippers.
Field teams working at the Haramain Sharifain regularly inspect the prayer areas. Their responsibility includes checking the condition of the carpets and replacing those that become damaged.
Some carpets may wear out due to frequent cleaning or constant foot traffic. When this happens, maintenance teams quickly replace them with new ones.
The regular inspection process helps ensure that the mosques remain clean and well maintained at all times. It also helps authorities maintain high service standards for pilgrims.
Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah has also received a portion of the new carpets. This mosque is the second holiest site in Islam and welcomes millions of visitors every year.
Authorities say improving facilities inside the mosques remains a top priority. Providing comfortable carpets is part of efforts to enhance the worship experience.
