The Middle East war entered its sixth day, with hostilities spreading across the region. Israel urged Australia to join the conflict against Iran.
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel told 7NEWS that Australia should take part in the airstrikes alongside the US and Israel. โThe war is now escalating on all fronts. My message to Australia is to wake up,โ she said. Haskel emphasized Australiaโs history of participating in global conflicts to defend freedom and security.
She added that Australians concerned about rising fuel and trade costs should see the long-term benefits of joining. โWhat could have come in the future would have been far more dangerous and costly,โ she said. Haskel also warned that if Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iranโs former Supreme Leader, rises to power, Israel may target him.
Iran Retaliates as Conflict Expands
Iran launched Khorramshahr-4 missiles targeting Israel, claiming some carried multiple warheads. Israel accused Iran of using cluster munitions. Meanwhile, Iran reported attacks in Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE.
Qatar and Azerbaijan also reported missile and drone attacks. Azerbaijan called the attacks on its airport โdangerousโ and promised a response to protect civilians. Iran denied involvement, despite repeated strikes hitting civilian and infrastructure targets.
The UAE reported intercepting six missiles and 131 drones in one day. Israel carried out airstrikes on Tehran, hitting missile storage sites and launchers it claimed posed an immediate threat. The Israeli military said it targeted operatives preparing missiles against aircraft.
Lebanon and Regional Tensions
Israel warned residents in Beirutโs southern suburbs to evacuate as hostilities with Hezbollah continue. Since Monday, Hezbollah launched missiles and drones into Israel, prompting Israeli retaliatory strikes in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan officials reported a second Iranian vessel in their waters, after a US submarine sank an Iranian warship near Sri Lanka, killing at least 87 people. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the strike marked the first submarine attack on an enemy since World War II.
The Middle East war shows no signs of slowing, with multiple countries now affected. The conflict has escalated from a US-Israel operation in Iran to a regional crisis, raising global concerns about safety and stability.
