Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Reportedly Moved to Russia for Treatment

Reports about the health of Mojtaba Khamenei have raised questions in recent days. Several media outlets claim the Iranian leader may have been injured during recent military strikes on Iran.

According to reports, Mojtaba Khamenei did not appear at the annual Al-Quds Day rally in Tehran. The absence of the country’s top leadership figure drew attention because other senior officials attended the event.

The Al-Quds Day rally is usually attended by major political and religious leaders in Iran. Observers noted that Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence from the gathering increased speculation about his health.

Earlier reports from some U.S. and Israeli officials suggested that Mojtaba Khamenei may have been injured during recent joint military strikes targeting Iranian positions. These claims have not been officially confirmed by Tehran.

New reports from Kuwaiti media outlet Al-Jarida claim that Mojtaba Khamenei was secretly transferred to Russia for medical treatment. The report states that the Iranian leader required surgery after sustaining serious injuries.

According to the outlet, a senior Iranian official said the surgery was successful. The official also claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei is now recovering at a hospital inside a secure presidential compound.

The same report stated that the Iranian leader was flown to Russia on March 12, 2026. He was reportedly transported aboard a Russian military aircraft.

Sources cited in the report said the decision came after a phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian. According to the claims, Putin suggested moving the Iranian leader to Russia for medical care.

Security concerns were also mentioned as a possible reason for the transfer. Iranian intelligence officials reportedly feared that hospitals inside Iran could become targets during ongoing tensions.

Earlier, the British newspaper The Guardian reported that Mojtaba Khamenei might be in a coma and receiving secret medical treatment. However, these claims remain unverified.

So far, Iranian authorities have not confirmed the reports about Mojtaba Khamenei’s health or location. Russian officials have also not issued any official statement on the matter.

Because of the lack of confirmation, the situation remains unclear. Analysts say the absence of verified information has allowed speculation about Mojtaba Khamenei to grow across international media.
