Monsoon Rains Expected to Intensify Across Pakistan

Pakistan braces for intense monsoon rains from Aug 14-21, with flood risks in several regions and travel advisories issued for safety.

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a significant increase in monsoon activity next week. Widespread rains are expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan from August 14 to 17.

According to the forecast, some areas may experience heavy downpours during this period. The monsoon system is likely to continue affecting parts of Kashmir from August 18 to 21, bringing more showers to various districts of Punjab, Balochistan, and KP.

Authorities have issued alerts for potential flooding in streams and nullahs. Urban flooding risks remain high in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Lahore, Peshawar, and Nowshera. The Met Office also warned about possible damage to weak infrastructure, road blockages, and the uprooting of trees due to strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Disaster management authorities have been placed on high alert to deal with any emergencies arising from the monsoon spell. Citizens are urged to remain cautious and take safety measures, especially in flood-prone regions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys during this time to prevent accidents or being stranded due to road closures. Farmers have also been advised to take protective steps to safeguard crops from excessive moisture.

This forecast comes as Pakistan experiences an active monsoon season, with weather experts closely monitoring further developments. If the predicted heavy rains occur, they could significantly impact transportation, agriculture, and daily life in several parts of the country.

The public is encouraged to stay updated through official weather advisories and avoid circulating unverified information. Authorities stress that preparedness and timely action can minimize damage and ensure safety during the rainy season.
