A recent German study discovered that people of the Islamic faith have a stronger sense of oneness, which refers to the belief that everything in the world is interconnected and interdependent, than people of other faiths.

Although the study’s goal was to investigate the relationship between oneness and life satisfaction without specifically focusing on religions, the findings revealed that Muslims scored higher in oneness beliefs than people of other faiths. Even after controlling for religious beliefs, the study found a positive relationship between oneness beliefs and life satisfaction.

There were two groups of participants in the study. The first group included 7,137 Germans who completed a survey about their personal beliefs about oneness, such as empathy, social connectedness, and nature. The second group was much larger, with 67,562 people in Germany from various religious backgrounds and atheists.

According to the findings, Muslims had the highest average value of oneness beliefs among all participants. Furthermore, the study discovered that women believed in oneness more than men.

Edinger-Schons, the researcher, discovered that people with higher oneness scores reported higher levels of life satisfaction. She also discovered that higher life satisfaction is linked to additional benefits such as improved academic performance in younger people and better health in older people.
