Myanmar Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 1,600, Aftershocks Feared

A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake has killed over 1,600 people in Myanmar, with authorities fearing aftershocks and further destruction. The quake, the deadliest in decades, struck on Friday, damaging airports, bridges, and highways amid ongoing civil unrest.

Myanmar’s military government has allowed foreign rescue teams to assist in relief efforts. Meanwhile, China, India, and ASEAN countries have pledged aid, while the U.S. has also offered assistance despite strained relations with Myanmar’s junta.

In Thailand, the quake caused a building collapse in Bangkok, killing at least nine people and leaving dozens trapped. Rescue operations continue as authorities assess widespread damage.
