New Zealand Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa: Complete Guide

New Zealand Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa Complete Guide

ISLAMABAD โ€“ New Zealand has introduced a new visa program for skilled workers. The โ€œSkilled Migrant Category Resident Visaโ€ offers foreign professionals, including Pakistanis, a chance to settle in the country permanently.

The new visa aims to attract skilled talent to support the labor market in New Zealand. It provides a clear pathway to residency for eligible applicants. This move is expected to benefit workers seeking better career opportunities abroad.

Under this visa, successful applicants can live in New Zealand for an unlimited period. They can also include their spouse and dependent children under the age of 24 in the application. This makes it easier for families to relocate together.

The initial fee for the visa application is NZD 6,450. After holding the visa for two years, applicants can apply for permanent residency. Permanent residency allows greater freedom, including unrestricted travel in and out of the country.

To qualify, applicants must meet several conditions. They must be 55 years old or younger. They should also be physically and mentally fit. Good character and English language skills are mandatory.

Applicants must also have a full-time skilled job or a valid job offer from a recognized employer. The employment must meet weekly working hour requirements and contract conditions. This ensures workers are entering stable jobs.

Salary requirements depend on the skill level of the job. For ANZSCO Levels 1 to 3, applicants must earn at least NZD 35 per hour. For Levels 4 to 5, the minimum salary is NZD 52.50 per hour.

The visa uses a points-based system. Applicants need at least six skilled points. These points can come from education, professional registration, income, and work experience in New Zealand. Local work experience may provide up to three extra points.

English language requirements also apply to spouses and children aged 16 or older. If they do not meet the standard, they may need to pay for language courses.

The application process starts with an Expression of Interest. Eligible candidates may then receive an Invitation to Apply. They must submit documents like passports, medical reports, and police certificates. The final application and payment must be completed within four months.
