Fields in parts of Australia are turning heads—but not because of snow. What looks like a winter wonderland is actually millions of spider silk threads blanketing the land during a phenomenon known as “mass ballooning.”
This seasonal event occurs when spiders release silk into the air to hitch a ride on the wind, allowing them to travel vast distances. As they land, their silk drapes over fences, grass, and trees, creating a surreal, ghostly layer locals call “angel hair.”
Though eerie, it’s a harmless and fascinating example of nature’s strange beauty.
