Pakistan Condemns Drone Attack on UN Peacekeepers in Sudan

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Condemns the recent drone strike in Kadugli, Sudan, that killed six Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers and injured several others. The attack targeted personnel serving under the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in Sudan’s southern Kordofan region.

A Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, said, “Pakistan Condemns this brutal assault and expresses deepest condolences to Bangladesh and the families of the victims.” He emphasized Pakistan’s solidarity with those affected and praised the peacekeepers for their service in protecting civilians and supporting peace.

The spokesperson added that Pakistan Condemns attacks on UN personnel as they risk their lives for global stability. He called for a swift investigation to identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable under international law. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the UN Security Council and the international community to ensure the safety of all UN peacekeepers.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the “horrific” incident, warning that such attacks could amount to war crimes. He emphasized the need for accountability to prevent future attacks on peacekeeping missions.

Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and injuries, urging the UN to provide emergency support to the affected personnel. Dhaka’s foreign ministry likewise strongly condemned the attack, calling it an unjustifiable act of violence.

UN peacekeepers in the Abyei region operate in a tense area disputed between Sudan and South Sudan.
