Pakistan and eight other Muslim countries on Monday warned that Israel’s expansionist plans in the West Bank aim to enforce a new legal reality in the occupied territory. The warning came in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
The statement said Israel’s actions accelerate illegal annexation attempts and threaten the displacement of the Palestinian people. “Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory,” it added, reaffirming support for Palestinian rights.
The warning follows Israel’s approval of new measures that make it easier for settlers to buy land in the West Bank. Reports cited Israeli officials saying the steps would grant authorities more powers over Palestinians while scrapping old regulations that restrict land sales to Jewish private citizens. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the measures illegal and a form of de facto annexation.
The ministers said the expansionist policies risk creating a dangerous new legal reality on the ground, undermining the two-state solution and fueling regional conflict. They described Israel’s moves as a clear violation of international law and UN resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 2334.
According to the joint statement, Israel’s actions threaten the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to an independent state along the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The ministers stressed that these illegal measures in the West Bank are “null and void” and harm ongoing peace efforts.
The statement also referenced the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which declared Israel’s presence and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal. The ministers urged the international community to act and prevent Israel from establishing a new legal reality that alters the demographic and legal status of Palestinian lands.
