Petrol Price Remains Unchanged, Diesel Sees Major Cut

The federal government announced revised fuel prices for the next fortnight, effective from August 15, 2025. The new rates were issued through a notification by the Ministry of Finance late Friday night.

According to the notification, the petrol price has been maintained at Rs264.61 per litre. There will be no change in petrol cost for the next 15 days. However, high-speed diesel has seen a significant cut of Rs12.84 per litre, bringing its new price down to Rs272.99 per litre.

Light diesel oil has also become cheaper by Rs8.20 per litre, and will now be available at Rs163.37 per litre. Similarly, the price of kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs7.19, setting its new rate at Rs178.27 per litre.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that these revised rates will remain in effect until the next review, which takes place every 15 days.

Previous adjustments in fuel prices

Just last month, on July 21, the government reduced the petrol price by Rs7.54 per litre, while diesel was increased by Rs1.48 per litre. At that time, petrol was fixed at Rs264.61 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs285.83 per litre.

The frequent adjustments reflect global market trends as well as domestic economic conditions. By keeping the petrol price stable while lowering diesel rates, the government aims to provide some relief to transporters, industries, and consumers who rely heavily on diesel.

Petrol and diesel prices are revised twice a month in Pakistan, depending on fluctuations in international oil prices and the exchange rate. The latest decision is expected to ease inflationary pressure, particularly for goods transportation and agriculture sectors, which consume large amounts of diesel.
