Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk at Blair House in Washington, DC, during his two-day visit to the United States. The meeting, held on Thursday, focused on strengthening the technological partnership between India and the US, with particular emphasis on space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development.
Elon Musk, accompanied by three of his children, including his son X, presented PM Modi with a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile as a symbol of innovation and their mutual commitment to advancing space technology. Discussions also covered pending regulatory approvals for Starlink’s satellite internet service in India, with Musk seeking to expand his satellite-based internet connectivity across the country.

The meeting followed Musk’s earlier talks with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. Modi was joined by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, signifying the high-level nature of the discussions.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed his delight at meeting Musk and his family, praising their discussions that spanned topics like technological innovation, governance, and future collaborations. Modi’s office also highlighted opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Indian and US entities in emerging technologies and entrepreneurship.
Modi’s visit to the US comes at a critical juncture, with potential tariff disputes looming. US President Donald Trump has previously signaled intentions to impose tariffs on countries like India, China, and Brazil. Bilateral talks between Modi and Trump are expected to touch on these economic concerns, although the complete agenda has not yet been disclosed.
