Punjab to Launch Second Phase of Free Laptop Scheme

Punjab to Launch Second Phase of Free Laptop Scheme

The Punjab government has announced the launch of the second phase of its free laptop scheme, aimed at boosting digital learning among students.

According to the Higher Education Department, the merit-based distribution will begin next month. The formal inauguration of the initiative will be led by the Punjab Chief Minister in a ceremony scheduled for the first or second week of September.

In the first phase of the program, nearly 14,000 laptops were distributed to students in Lahore. The second phase of the laptop scheme will expand its scope, covering more districts across Punjab and ensuring that deserving students in other regions also benefit.

Officials stated that the scheme is designed to promote digital literacy and support e-learning. By providing free laptops, the government aims to enable students to access modern research tools, complete academic assignments, and improve overall learning outcomes.

The laptop scheme also seeks to reduce the digital divide, especially for students from less privileged backgrounds. At the same time, it rewards academic excellence by ensuring that distribution is strictly merit-based.

Education experts believe the initiative will encourage more students to adopt technology for learning and help them compete at both national and international levels. The government hopes this program will play a key role in equipping the youth with the skills needed in todayโ€™s digital era.

With the second phase set to begin in September, thousands of students across Punjab are expected to benefit from the scheme, further strengthening the provinceโ€™s efforts to promote education and digital empowerment.
