Putin Slams U.S. Israel Strikes on Iran as Russia and China Urge De-Escalation

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a strong condemnation of the recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran, calling them “groundless, unjustifiable, and illegitimate” during high-level talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow. Labeling the strikes as “unprovoked aggression,” Putin stressed that such actions blatantly violate international norms.

“There can be no justification for such actions,” Putin stated, reiterating Russia’s support for Iran and advocating for diplomatic solutions to ease growing regional tensions. “Your visit allows us to discuss these pressing issues and jointly think about a way out of the current situation,” he told Araghchi at the Kremlin.

In response, the Iranian foreign minister described the visit as essential for deepening coordination between the two countries. Araghchi thanked Russia for taking a firm stance against the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and conveyed greetings from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Meanwhile, China has also expressed deep concern over the widening conflict. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun warned that ongoing hostilities risk destabilizing the region and disrupting global economic flows. “The Gulf and surrounding waters are important international trade routes,” Guo said, urging a collective return to political dialogue.

With the threat of a broader regional conflict looming, both Russia and China are positioning themselves as critical voices in pushing for restraint and diplomacy, amid fears of a wider geopolitical and economic fallout.
