Repeat Offender’s Rampage Kills Aspiring Teacher in South Carolina

A 30-year-old career criminal, identified as Alexander Dickey, is accused of breaking into a Columbia, South Carolina home and fatally shooting a visitor. The victim was 22-year-old Logan Federico, a college student training to become a teacher.

Dickey, described by police as a repeat offender with nearly 40 prior arrests, allegedly entered the neighborhood in a stolen vehicle. He broke into one home, where he stole car keys and a firearm. He then entered the home where Federico was staying and, after taking her credit cards, shot her while she was asleep.

The crime was called random by local authorities. The suspect used the stolen credit cards in a spree before fleeing. Law enforcement later tracked and arrested Dickey after spotting him emerge from the woods into a stolen vehicle.

This case has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system. Local officers expressed outrage at how easily someone with such a long criminal record remained free. One retired officer said, “This revolving door has got to stop.”

At this time, Dickey faces multiple charges, including homicide, burglary, and identity theft. Investigations are ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a promising young educator whose life was cut tragically short.
