Russia Launches Deadly Missile Barrage on Ukraine

Russia

Russia fired a series of missiles and drones at Ukraine, killing at least 12 people, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes primarily targeted central and eastern Ukraine overnight and early Saturday, with the city of Poltava bearing the brunt of the assault. Eight people, including a child, were killed when a missile hit a residential building, leaving emergency services to search through the ruins.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed its forces had made significant gains, including the capture of Krymske, a village on the outskirts of Toretsk, a key city in eastern Ukraine. The ongoing fighting, particularly in Donetsk, is part of Moscow’s broader strategy to disrupt Ukraine’s vital supply routes.

Despite US President Donald Trump’s earlier promise for a ceasefire, tensions remain high, with the war showing no signs of de-escalating. Violence is not only concentrated on the frontlines but also within Ukraine, as an explosion at a recruitment center in Rivne resulted in casualties, and a shooting involving a Ukrainian soldier and a conscript occurred.

The ongoing war continues to take a heavy toll on both civilians and military personnel across the country.
