Pakistani humanitarian worker Saad Edhi was among several activists reportedly detained during an international aid mission heading toward Gaza. The mission was organized to deliver humanitarian assistance to Palestinians facing severe conditions in the region.
According to reports, Saad Edhi joined more than 500 activists and aid workers from different countries as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla. The convoy departed from Marmaris, Turkiye, with the aim of transporting relief supplies to Gaza.
The flotilla included humanitarian organizations and volunteers from around the world. The Edhi Foundation also participated in the mission to support Palestinians affected by the ongoing crisis.
Reports stated that Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla during the journey. Several activists, including Saad Edhi, were allegedly detained during the operation.
Before the incident, Saad Edhi reportedly released an emergency video statement. The footage allegedly showed Israeli forces approaching the flotilla before carrying out the operation at sea.
The humanitarian convoy was attempting to deliver aid supplies when the interception took place. Details regarding the condition and location of those detained have not yet been fully confirmed.
The latest incident comes during growing international criticism of Israel’s blockade on Gaza. Earlier this month, another Global Sumud flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and activists was also stopped during a separate mission.
That earlier operation drew criticism from Pakistan and several other countries. A joint statement issued by Pakistan and 10 other nations strongly condemned the interception of humanitarian vessels.
The statement described the actions as violations of international law and international humanitarian law. It also criticized the unlawful detention of humanitarian activists in international waters.
Former Pakistani senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan was also previously detained during an earlier flotilla mission. He was later released and transferred back to Turkiye after the operation.
The repeated incidents involving aid flotillas have increased global attention on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Human rights groups and aid organizations continue to call for unrestricted humanitarian access to the Palestinian territory.
Saad Edhi’s involvement in the latest mission has also generated strong reactions on social media in Pakistan. Many users praised the Edhi Foundation’s humanitarian efforts and expressed concern over the reported detentions.
So far, Israeli authorities have not publicly released detailed information regarding all the individuals involved in the latest operation. International organizations are expected to closely monitor the situation in the coming days.
